"Women are physically and emotionally weaker than men"
-Society
This is the statement which our society has been slapping on women's face everytime they try to do something they want to. This poor and absurd mentality of our society is so deep rooted that it has overtaken the sports too.
In my opinion, sports is something that everyone needs to stay fit both physically and mentally. Something very personal to decide. I don't see the point as to who is society to dictate about it.
Courageous women who somehow fights with the mentality have to face off with several other barriers like family support, societal pressure, mental harassment, sexual harassment by their coaches, lessser earning from sports, lesser opportunity, negligible care from the sport's authority about their diet, medical or travel expenses and the list goes on and on..
Fortunately, over the course of last 50 years, more and more woman globally are coming forward and are standing bravely against all the laws banning them to play and are struggling with all the problems with courage. They are defying all the gender stereotypes and orthodox social norms and are understanding the importance of sports. Sports is now seen as a drive promoting gender equality together with teaching teamwork, confidence, self care, self resilience etc.
There were different challenges for different women all across the world because of different social and legal norms. And though many counties took different actions to promote gender equality in sports, a law called Title IX impacted life of many sports loving women drastically.
It's the need of the hour that we make many more such laws and initiatives to decrease the gap between the number of men and women in sports.
