FEMINISM

Updated: Aug 3, 2020

In today’s world there are so many topics to discuss for equality but feminism is something which is facing more contradictions than any other topic among humans and about humans.

There are so many people who do not support this concept, not just men but women too.

Idea of feminism suggest equality of rights for men and women but some of us misunderstood it with the statement “women are same as men”. Women and men are different by physical and biological structures so we can’t be same but what we deserve as a part of society is equality in political, social, ecological rights, equal opportunities for both sexes.

Too many people think It is a bold move of angry women. Many people fear that men will lose all the power and authority. They fear that it will bring negative shift in relationship and marriages and all the economic and political opportunities. IT is fear of losing power putting them against this concept.

BUT, SIMPLY feminism want a world with equal opportunities not a world without men.

NOW I’M GOING TO DISCUSS SOME IMPORTANT TYPE OF FEMINISM,

because, it is not just a word, it is much wider concept then we know.

ECOFEMINISM: Ecological feminism

Ecofeminism determine the connection between women and nature. It emphasizes the way both nature and women are treated by men. The philosophy also contends that lead to an incomplete view of the world and its practitioners advocate an alternative worldview that values the earth as scared, recognizes humanity’s dependencies on nature and embraces all life as valuable.

ORIGIN OF ECOFEMINISM:

Ecofeminism was born in late 1970 and early 1980 with a series of conferences held in US by professional women.

They discussed the way to combine women with nature because both things were often depicted as chaotic, irrational and were under suppression of men while men were enjoying all the powers. Later it became popular by the article written by Ynestra king titled “What is Ecofeminism”. That appeared in ‘THE NATION’.

TYPES OF ECOFEMINISM:

1.RADICAL ECOFEMINISM: It contend that the dominant patriarchal equates nature and women to degrade both.

For such theorists they both have been associated with negative attribute while men have been seen as capable of establishing orders. In this way the patriarchal society keeps degrading women and nature and uses both as their resources.

2. CULTURAL ECOFEMINISM: They contend that women have more intimate relationship with nature because of their social and biological role. They suggest that women sensitivity establish their direct connection with nature. IT has roots for religious activities as worship of goddess.

AFTER all the positive values everyone is not in support of the theory of cultural ecofeminism AS it can generate gender stereotypes and biasness for other side or from other side. They consider it as violation of equality.

With so many conflicts and ideologies ecofeminism grow worldwide.

RELIGION AND FEMINISM:

Feminism has so many aspects and types and beliefs but in a country like India where there are not only different ideologies stay but religions and cultures too and every culture contradict its own value.

On one hand we worship different goddess and on other we stop our women to enter Inside holy places in menstruation, which is totally a natural biological process in mature woman body.

On one hand we call our land motherland on the other we make our daughter leave her house after marriage.

On one hand we worship females on other hand we are not able to stop rapes and sexual abuse with women across world.

• And, after all these we call it wrong if any women choose to wear bold clothes according to her will. Recently so many Muslim actress faced problem in their work due to their clothes and following Hindu culture during acting, but I never heard a debate in media about khan’s doing any Hindu role.

In many religious teachings across a wide range of religions, women are given the role of nurturing, caring and giving birth. While these roles are presented positively and as essential, they reinforce the gender norms in society and the patriarchal power structures. If women choose not to conform to gender stereotypes, they are not only deviating from gender norms and family expectations, but deviating from God’s will too.

In April 8,2016 women get the right to enter in Shani Shingnapur Scantum but the journey and protest was not easy.

WHEN WOMEN ENTERED THE SHANI

SHINGNAPUR SANCTUM o November 27, 2015: A young woman

climbed the platform and performed ‘Abhishek’ to Lord Shani, sparking outrage among villagers and temple trustees. Later, the idol was "purified".

o November 28, 2016: The temple

committee suspended seven security and observed a ‘bandh’ in the village to protest the incident.

o January 26, 2016: Activists led by Trupti Desai tried to break decadesold tradition that prohibited women from entering sanctum sanctorum of the presiding god Shani. They were stopped by police 70km away from the temple.

o March 30, 2016: Bombay high court asked Maharashtra government to ensure women are not denied entry. The HC while hearing a petition filed by Dabholkar’s associate Vidya Bal and Nilima Varta, ruled that entering temple is a fundamental right of women and that government is duty bound to protect this right.

o April 8, 2016: Temple trust finally allowed the entry of women into the sanctum.

Abolishing “Tin-Talak” was not easy.

THOSE who says we are in equality with men and don’t need feminism are not looking deep down into crimes and suppression of women in workplace, in society. Maybe they are getting equality from their own perception. Maybe they are from a well-developed and prosperous educated place but, the war has not ended it is still going on and there is still a lot of things to fight for to achieve equality in this patriarchal world. Feminism is a concept of being bold to get what you deserve. It is concept to fight for every opportunity in every field (like education, work, survival, independence, beliefs and equality).
